Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've last put up a post on here. School got busy just overall so I kept pushing off reading and although I already read quite a bit of this book I forgot to make a post about it overall. But now I'm officially done with my last semester and I'll have more time to read some more books.
Synopsis: Michele Harper is a female, African American emergency room physician in a profession that is overwhelmingly male and white. Brought up in Washington , D.C., in a complicated family, she went to Harvard, where she met her husband. They stayed together through medical school until two months before she was scheduled to join the staff of a hospital in central Philadelphia, when he told her he couldn't move with her. Her marriage at an end, Harper began her new life in a new city, in a new job, as a newly single woman.
In the ensuing years, as Harper learned to become an effective ER physician, bringing insight and empathy to every patient encounter, she came to understand that each of us is broken -- physically, emotionally, psychically. How we recognize those breaks, how we try to mend them, and where we go from there are all crucial parts of the healing process.
My Thoughts So Far: Although I left this book half read, I can tell you that I'm loving all of it. It's been really interesting so far to gain insight from her when she was younger and how her past has influenced her up until present day. I love the perspective she has with medicine and how she even has some insights that are not as traditional in western medicine. It's a refreshing read and I've been loving her feedback towards the end of all the chapters. I'll let you guys know what I fully think about it when I do the book review, which should be out tomorrow because I'm so close to finishing it.
I hope you all have a wonderful day and I'll be posting very soon.
